Ballast and soil retention
POLYwall™ Composite Ballast / Soil retention system provides a structural long life solution for ballast and/or soil retention along embankments and sloping ground. Ideal around trackside cabinets and equipment.
The resultant installation has a design life in excess of 60 years and will not corrode.
Being lightweight when compared with traditional brick, concrete and steel they also have minimal impact on the bridge structure.
Supplied either in sheet that can be cut to size on site or factory fabricated as a kit.
At the heart of the system are the BOXpost™ and I Beam. Both tried, tested and proven GRP posts with high strength characteristics. Composite retention panels are formed from our interlocking Structural Planking which has a nominal performance of 5kN/m².
All components of the system weigh less than 25 Kgs. Composite GRP Structural panels are ‘tongue and groove’ profiled so panels stack together to form a wall to suit the depth required. Whilst all high strength BOXposts™ and I Beams are pre-machined to accept these panels, providing a very fast construction.
Our material cannot corrode or rot, is not affected by salts, water, oils, acids or alkaline. It is also unaffected by temperature variances. Thus; it’s lifespan and maintenance profile is far superior to steel or concrete.
GRP Structural Planking forms the retention part of the system. With its’ re-enforcement rib and interlocking plank construction it provides nominal loadings of 5kN/m² Ballast and/or soil placed on the rib side of the structure keys into the slots formed by this rib structure.
GRP Posts in either format are capable of loadings in excess of 80kN. Standard post spacing are 1.2, 1.5 and 1.8 metres to centres depending upon the height and loading upon the wall.
