Having collaborated on previous projects, Doncaster Council Contracted Polydeck, the footbridge specialist, for help in replacing two very old and dilapidated rural footbridges.
Both footbridges, located in Doncasters Tickhill were becoming unsafe to use due to rotting and a slippery surface. Slutwell stream footbridge in particular, which is often covered in water from the rising stream, was in urgent need of replacement. That made a glass reinforced polyester (GRP) bridge the perfect replacement.
Plura helped resolve the following issues with the use of our GRP footbridges.
Due to the wet conditions of the footbridges, they were both prone to rot. GRP Solves this issue lasting over 75 years.
Being in a rural environment, the bridges needed to blend in with the surroundings. Our GRP planks are designed to look like timber.
Water on the bridge made the previous wood bridge unsafe. Our planks come with anti slip for safety.
Our lightweight bridges are designed to arrive fully assembled or in components to build in rural areas.
Designed to stand British Weather for over 75 years without rot, bowing, warping or cracking, it is a long term alternative to traditional timber footbridges. With lightweight components to install and low needed maintenance, it is the perfect bridge for remote countryside locations.
GRP is a great replacement for timber bridges, with many benefits.
